The candidate's story
Job Title: Engineering

The employer's story
Arcadis, a leading multi-billion pound design and consultancy firm for natural and built assests. The firm has a record of successfully hiring refugees in Germany and the Netherlands. In the UK Arcadis worked with Transitions London CIC to create an ambitious positive action Traineeship programme – starting with an event where refugees met with Arcadis talent acquisition and learning & development teams.
Working together, Arcadis and Transitions developed a handbook to clarify traineeship aims and objectives and the mutual roles of Transitions and Arcadis staff. Arcadis went on to provide 6 month paid, supervised roles for 16 people, each relevant to the person’s skill set and the Arcadis business.. The internships were in engineering, architecture, administration and project management. CPD opportunities were made available and advanced Business Communications Training was provided where required.
On an ongoing basis Transitions supplied co-ordination with HR and monitoring and guidance for each candidate. This included reflective learning and journal support.
