I see that the Royal Academy of Engineering have decided to use positive action to balance the diversity of their Fellows. To make their membership reflect society, so that those representative members have a ripple effect.
Some people feel it’s unfair to do that or that the jury is still out on it.
Sure, in an ideal world, membership of an under-represented group (women in engineering, career returners, ethnic minorities etc) would have no direct connection to career progression. Sadly, it does. Therefore action is needed.
What would you suggest?
